Dialoguing @RTS Residency 2025

As part of the EU-wide project dialoguing@rts, I could work together with the Ulm-based artist Matthis Katzmaier for three weeks in September 2025 in the Eselsberg district of Ulm. Our residency is part of a transnational network of 27 partners from eight countries. The aim of the project: to rethink cultural participation through dialogical art formats in music, dance, and theater. In Ulm, our focus was on the medium of sound. We asked: What does a neighborhood sound like? Which voices are heard – and which are not? Together with local residents, we explore memories, noises, rhythms, and the sounds of their everyday lives. From this, performative encounters emerge – sometimes quiet, sometimes loud, but always in dialogue. The residency is both artistic practice and part of a research process: it seeks to open up spaces in which community becomes audible and art can be experienced as a social practice.

The results of the residency could be experienced in the final presentation:

„In Kontakt Kommen“ – Sound installation – Exhibition 28.09.2025

The process…

Stadt Ulm: Dialoguing@rts

SPHERES OF SYMBIOSIS – an immersive interactive exhibition

04.04.-06.04.2025 / 17-21 o´clock @ atelierfrankfurt/ Frankfurt am Main DE

With Spheres of Symbiosis, I can bring my artistic vision to life in an immersive and deeply felt way – thanks to the evocative works of Rainer Guba and Kim Elas. Visitors are not just witnesses to the delicate symbiosis of our ecosystems; they become active participants in a living soundscape that evolves through their touch, their movement, their very presence. Their art invites us to rediscover our place within this web of life – and to forge new, sustainable connections together.

Concept, Curation, Sound installation: Abelha Supersónica
Watercolor Paintings: Rainer Guba
Underwater Sculptures: Kim Elas
The interactive exhibition Spheres of Symbiosis invites visitors to explore the delicate connection between nature, technology, and humanity through soundscapes, visual design, and sensory interactions. In three immersive spaces – the cosmos, the earth, and the underwater world – participants experience how collective engagement can shift their perception of these spheres and foster a deeper awareness of our environment. Each sphere is shaped by sound installations that respond to movement and touch, challenging the senses and expanding perception. The exhibition aims to create an active experience of the sensitive interrelations found in nature, showing how collective action can unlock new potential for positive change. Interactive sound installations and the creative use of recycled materials raise awareness of our responsibility to preserve the environment and to act sustainably.

COSMOS: The sound installation in the cosmos sphere movingly integrates the body as an element of sound creation and connection, inviting collective interaction to make the sound of the cosmos tangible…

EAHRTH: As bodily experience, visitors sense the Earth’s singular beauty and the vital role of sustainability and unity in a haptic way:

Simple sound plants made from recycled materials invite interaction…

UNDERWATER WORLD: Physical connections transform the underwater world into a vibrant soundscape, where the noises of the sea become a communal composition. Both the sound triggers and the touch of human skin act as instruments, coming to life through social interaction.

When the cycle closes, sound is born – an echo of symbiosis that holds life and cosmos in harmony.

Art that connects people

OscillART – body sound art

#choreography #movement art #body art

10-11/2022 presentation in the video „Shadow Relations“ @ Atelier Frankfurt Frankfurt am Main, DE

OscillART is an artistic project that develops a unique aesthetic language where sound, movement, and visual elements merge into a profound unity. At its core lies the question of how music, emotions, and spatial as well as visual language can create an aesthetic foundation from which physical performances unfold. This connection results in an extraordinary symbiosis: sounds and inner emotional processes are translated into movement through the body and expressed outwardly in a visually embodied form.

A particularly defining aspect of OscillART is the innovative translation of sound into visual and physical expressions. Shadows play a central role in this process: they are not merely projection surfaces but become active design elements. Through the interplay of sound, light, and movement, dynamic shadow images emerge that enhance the expressive potential of the body while simultaneously creating new aesthetic spaces. The body itself becomes a medium, making the interaction between auditory and visual stimuli tangible.

As part of the video presentation Shadow Relations, this approach is combined with elements of video art and enriched by additional visual components. The work blends sound, light, and movement to artistically explore the complex relationships between shadow and light. Here, shadows are not simply treated as visual elements but as integral components that, through their interaction with sound, create new visual and emotional depths within the space.

The goal of OscillART is to foster a heightened awareness of the subtle connections between sound, shadow, and the body. It invites the audience to experience the impact of sound and light in a new, profound context, encouraging an enhanced perception of space and the body. The performances inspire reflection on how inner processes can not only be experienced but also made visible through art.

OscillART creates an interdisciplinary space that rethinks the boundaries between music, visual art, and physical performance in an innovative way. It is not just about artistic representation but about establishing an intense dialogue between inner emotions and outer form—one that moves and inspires.

City Noises – between torment and inspiration

audiowalk – audio memories – sound & emotions – the sound of places

The city is a hodgepodge of sound locations - countless frequencies that oscillate between a curse and a blessing. Each place has its own unique soundscape, which can reveal incredible things if you listen carefully. Abelha took on this special sound characteristic with a field recorder and intensively researched the sound of two places in Frankfurt am Main's industrial district in the east. The atmosphere of the place was internalized and, in dealing with the resulting associations, these were put into words.

25.10. – 27.10.2024 Naxos Hallen/ Frankfurt am Main, DE
#composition #sound design #music

Massenhysterie?

YOU IMPACT THE WORLD!

„YOU IMPACT THE WORLD!“ Is a piano performance that develops in the moment of doing. Every sound that happens is a result of the atmosphere that is to feel right in that moment the performance happens. The visitors are a part of the performance and causes what happens. The emotions they bring in and every way of acting, talking, moving effects the atmosphere in the world – what is being showed here in the room, where the performance take place. The visitors can also actively influence the performance through moving, singing, building a creative community – what could end in a special common event together with the piano-performance.

With this performance project the artist Abelha Supersónica want to thematize the subject of digital world, anonymity and how it effects us in our way to live, in our behave and how this can impact the world around us. With this performance Abelha want to sensitize for are respectful together and awareness of body languages and (body) actions. She wants to demonstrate the emotional and psychological effects through the way we are treating us and calls on you to take responsibility for your actions and to be aware of their effects.

Each individual can initiate a change that can have far reaching effects!

IMPROVISATIONS

To improvise with sounds, with instruments, with technic, with the (inter-)medium is for me the most important way to come closer to the medium I work with, to its spectrum of emotional and embodied effects. The improvisation gives me the possibility to transform the actual emotional condition into sound, to work out and to express what happens in me – how the world effects me.

The improvisation takes the initial distance apart from me and let me create a deep connection with the material, the sound character, the embodied sound, and the movement that is a part of the sound, a part of my body, a part of the room and which is beeing created through the sound in many ways.

Before I work on a concrete project there is always the improvisation phase. And there are also projects where the improvisation is a main part of the event.

In collaboration works the improvisation let’s find a common flow that lets initiate the common working process in a special way.

In my workshops with different target groups the improvisation phase is the most important in the beginning – that everybody can find an access to the medium, to the group and especially to himself. Through the low-threshold access everybody can be a part of the group and can find its own way to express through art and to open up to artistic-social processes.

DIY-Projects

Klangkiste/ Soundbox

Build your own analog sound generator/s and explore… I like to experiment with materials and their sound characters. To explore simple analog sound generators in the group of membranophones, ideophones and chordophones and build them by myself. After an intensive exploration of soundcharacters of the different materials to build simple instruments or a group of – combined in a soundbox. After that comes the (common) exploration and improvisation time that ends in a (common) sound event.

A sound journey with sound modules

The sound modules gives the chance to record own sounds over the built in microphone. There are different ways to explore the modules in finding different resonation corps to amplify the sound. To explore the voice and the world around with its magic of sounds. And after an intensive exploration and improvisation time, especially in a group, there is the chance to create an own composition and to arrange it I a variety of ways. A finish recording result can be bundled in a common exhibition in form of a interactive sound installation – that let also the recipients go to be a producer and actively composes unique moments.

Experimenting with Piezos or modify existing instruments…

Do you ever heard the sound of your kaktus?

With the Piezo it’s possible to make sounds hearable and dive deep into a new sound world. Every material that is resonating in any way – and also if not (but maybe the result is not very impressive then 😉 you can bring up in an other auditive light with the Piezo. A very special way of sound exploration that gives also the possibility to play with the sounds with the help of effects that let emerge us into a new sound world.
